Hello, I have a project for school to design your own house with garden. So I started working at home, with version 8. Unfortunatly, my school isn't really up-to-date, and have their computers running on version 6. So I can't open my version 8 files on version 6.
I haven't seen a usable file salvaged if this is the case. As Taff has suggested there should be an autosave and a backup file that should open correctly. I suggested the immediate copy of the backup file to prevent any possible future loss that could be caused by trying to open it, or even by opening SketchUp. Before you do anything else, check to see if there is a backup file! Look in the folder in which the model file is stored (the file with which you're having problems.) Your model file will have the SKP extension. What you need to find is a similarly-named file, but with a SKB extension.

Another reason to import into an empty file and not your working model. Window → Model Info → Statistics → Purge Unused As in AutoCAD you should purge your SketchUp model often. And before inserting the imported geometry into a new model it should be purged first so you ensure you’re not importing unused data. Notice I have checked the “Show nested components” checkbox. It does not affect the purge operation, but it makes the statistics display information for the whole model, not just the root level of the model. Inspect the model and see if everything looks OK. You might find that some blocks, imported as components, will appear to jitter and jump around in the drawing when you navigate the model.

A skb backup file must have its suffix changed to skp to allow Sketchup to open it.
