It seems the Arena process simulator is just a copy of the Arena interface in Visio, and it uses Visio custom shape properties to store simulation properties. So if you can figure out what properties get pulled in to Arena, you can theoretically trick the Process Simulator with your own shapes.
Additional examples, review questions, lab exercises and case study assignments have also been added to further enhance students’ learning experience. This text blends theory with practice presenting actual applications in business, services and manufacturing.

Background Meeting the Army's need for its Force Generation processes to sustain global responsiveness and regional engagement while protecting the precious time Soldiers have at home with their families, is a complex challenge. ProModel Corporation was selected to partner with U.S. Army Forces Command (FORSCOM) to develop a toolset that simulates the Total Army moving through the Army Force Generation process and provides the necessary predictive capabilities. The resulting technology developed by this partnership is the Army Force Generation Synchronization Toolset (AST). AST is available on both the SIPR and NIPR Networks to users across the Army worldwide and is the baseline platform supporting the Army's Sustainable Readiness Process. Objectives Major objectives supported by AST are as follows: • Gather all Army conventional force requirements worldwide in one location and review validated requirements over time.
Model Assumptions • System contains 6 waste processing stations, placed by geographical location. • Each waste station has their own maximum processing capacity number. • Assumes infinite entity arrivals from 4 main points of entries. • Entity arrives at an exponential rate of 5 per hour (averaging one per every 12 minutes). • Peak Times is 8 hours per day between the hours of 9AM-5PM.

Leonard Yip, PRG CIO had previous experience with ProModel technology. Currently using spreadsheets to manage projects and make project resource decisions and analyze other portfolio data, Leonard and his team decided to formulate a project management methodology using Microsoft Project Server and ProModel's Enterprise Portfolio Simulator (EPS) to help them analyze their full portfolio of IT projects and make portfolio decisions. Objectives • Establish a project management methodology using Microsoft Project and EPS • Create a single source for managing all IT projects • Make accurate resource capacity decisions • Deliver projects on time and within budget at least 80% of the time 'Simulation is the only way that would give us the data to substantiate our claims or provide us a better way to complete the portfolio of projects.' — Leonard Yip, CTO, PRG Results The results of this project planning and resource management approach were very dramatic. The first project completed using the new tools was examined in detail and determined to be a troubled project. The original plan predicted a six month delay. Examining the impact of using additional resources to improve timing and financial performance, PRG identified ways to accelerate the project such that it could be delivered according to the committed deadline.

It is displayed as Total Distance Traveled in Resource Summary reports and tracks the overall distance traveled for individual units. Identify Captured Resource Units In addition to determining which resource you’ve captured, you can now find out the specific unit of that resource as well. With the new OwnedResourceUnit() function, you can get the unit number of any resource owned by an entity. This is useful when collecting custom resource statistics at the individual unit level. In-Process Resource Utilization Statistics Access the utilization of your resources at any time during simulation. Using the newly modified PercentUtil() function, you can find out the utilization of individual units of a resource or a summary of all units of a given resource type.

This paper focuses on the creation and integration of the simulation engine which was required to replicate and improve on the existing GPSS model accuracy and performance. Additional considerations included providing TSA an easy-to-use simulation platform to maintain the simulation engine, make model and data edits and expand the use of simulation technology within TSA.

• If the current throughput did not meet the demand of 200 units per month, identify the primary and secondary constraints. Results Lean Six Sigma principles were used to develop current and future state predictive analytic simulation models. The current state model indicated a maximum monthly output of 93 mechanical items reset with resources scheduled for 2 shifts, four days a week, validating data reflective of the actual process. A new model was created to simulate the future state scenario to determine the system's maximum capacity with the current staffing while running two blast booths.

If you leave one module for another (e.g. To create a new global variable), when you return to that module, all its previously open windows will be reopened. Right-Click Context Menus Context menus are available in every table and accessible by right-clicking in any field within that table. For example, you will be able to quickly delete, insert or move a record with a simple right-click of the mouse. The right-click context menus in Background graphics are improved and provide new access to editing other modeling elements such as locations and variables.
It seems there is also an Arena Process Simulator, and ProModel just named their product the same thing. So my answer doesn't really answer your question.

To date they have been able to achieve the following: • Understand more accurately their actual approval process and where the bottlenecks are • Test ‘What-If” scenarios around potential different courses of action without interrupting their live process • Improve the process for forecasting their resource requirements over the next 5-10 years. Process Improvement Lean Six Sigma Analysis for Army Depot Paint Shop Capacity and Labor Resources Situation One of the critical functions for which the Army repair depot is responsible is the Paint Shop reset of mechanical items through staging, steam clean, prep, blast and paint. Approximately 11 different items run through the depot's Paint Shop, taking varying times to reset and repaint. The depot was anticipating increased demand due to the continued high level of troop deployment throughout the world, and needed to know the maximum capacity of items it was capable of repairing for a given month. Anticipating a demand of resetting a minimum of 200 units per month, the depot engaged ProModel to help develop a simulation solution which would give them the capability to analyze their paint shop reset operations. Objective • Identify the actual maximum capacity of items the Paint Shop can reset given the current state of equipment and resources.

For example, in the file name 'winmail.dat', the file extension is 'dat'. The challenge was how to generate a staffing schedule according to this new approach? If they could predict which skills and in what quantity were required by time and day, costs and service would improve. With thousands of branches, the savings multiplied across their network of retail locations could be very significant. Objective The client's business objective for this initiative was to determine if changes to staffing policies at its retail banking branches could reduce labor cost and increase profitability while simultaneously improving customer satisfaction. Results The analysis showed how $120,000 of savings annually per branch came from matching the specific assignments of staff to 'fuzzy' data about when a client would need them. Wait times at walk-up and drive-thru windows also decreased providing an improved customer experience.
LMI DST matches validated, prioritized equipment demands with available Army inventory in depots, units, and other sources. It provides an advanced planning capability to resolve complex scenarios that include force structure changes, modernization of equipment and authorizations and quickly identifying excess in the future. The tool helps equipment managers consider the impact of delivery times and transportation costs and the long-term effects of any decisions. Objectives • Provide an enterprise view of total Army materiel supply and demand over time. • Match validated, prioritized equipment demands with available Army inventory in depots, non- deployed units, and other sources to create proposed sourcing decisions to fill any shortages.
