Saiga Serial Number Lookup
Norinco and Polytech are beautiful and if I ever get outta here, I'll be getting some of my own. Work with us to help defeat the new Czars, especially Sunstein, who are going to try to use restrictions pioneered here in CA against the rest of the country. Check out our site, where people have been able to bring about a revolution in CA-legal firearms that includes members of the Arsenal series and all of the Lancaster, etc., AKs: calguns.net. As a resident of 'Kommiefornia,' I want to urge you and the rest of the members of the board who don't live in this state to: 1.
I have a pre-ban Norinco AKM-47S. Any idea what I have here as regards manufacture date or the like? There's no Norinco star anywhere to be found, and these pics show every stamping on the gun. The on blurry one (I am using a borrowed camera, and could not retake right now) says as far as the serial number 'M0000664' and the reciever says: AKM/47S SEMI AUTO 7.62 x 39 thanks in advance! EDIT: oh, I forgot, pic 5 has nothing but the letters 'D and 'B' at that spot. What do you think?
Could someone guide me to information on when Chinese Norinco AK type 56S Sporters were made. (perhaps based on serial. Search Terms Powered. I have never seen any serial number data for preban AK's. Since they were imported from at least (3) different countries, during the mid to late 80's time frame. Mostly by different companies that are now out of business, you might have a hard time obtaining them. If none of our folks can help there are a number of AK specific sites on the net.
Most of these photos are from Chicom47.net. Polytech Legend fixed stock.
I've used his in my past builds but thought I'd give the weld-on one a try, sorry I did. Note: '08 quality control is in the toilet. My front sight is slightly canted to the left, the markings on the right side of the gun are roughly engraved, and they didn't pin my gas block or front sight, they're just crimped on. Now I'm sorry I sold my '06 Saiga, was much better quality. Even my '99 Hesse converted Saiga looked better than this one.
Click to expand.I hate the way Arsenal/Saiga labels there SGL line! They are very confusing, but basically SGL21 is a 7.62 rifle.
One thing you might look out for, when the Saiga Legion was orignally put on the market they where sold with a converted front end (barrel componets) and a sporter stock back end. One way to tell is its going to say Saiga Legion on the receiver but more than likely if it was converted it was done at home and you will notice this by the trigger guard and the 4 extra holes in the receiver where the orignal trigger pins where located, and an extra hole or two on the bottom of the receiver around the trigger guard. Also when most people convert a Saiga they do not replace the orginal trigger guard and will bolt the front end of it up under the mag latch. (this will also help you determine if it was orignally a sporter rifle also) This might not be the case at all with that gun, but should help you out with determining if its an actual SGL or a converted Saiga Sporter. If you are buying from K-Var or other reputable online dealer if it says SGL21-61 it should be an actual K-var/Arsenal, Saiga Legion SGL21-61 and not some home rolled or converted by xyz company.
So an SLR 105UR would be a Krinkov clone in 5.45x39 with 16' barrel vice the orignal 8' barrel. (note I dont think they ever offered the SLR 105UR for civilian sales and it would have came with an 8' barrel and would be full auto). Thanks so much for your help. For awhile i was expecting 'search' or a link to some other forum(which i don't really have time for.one or two is enough). For some reason i thought the last two numbers were years.

MP5 SD4 MP5, with integral sound suppressor, as described above with counted round burst trigger pack and receiver end cap (without butt stock). MP5 SD5 MP5, with integral sound suppressor, as described above with counted round burst trigger pack and fixed full length stock.
For some reason i thought the last two numbers were years. I wish arsenal's site would provide the same explanation. On saturday i shot one with black furniture (warsaw stock) and it was like love at first sight. It grouped so nice at far-pistol distance. So if i want that exact model it would be a '61?

About russian letters; if you are not sure what a particular letter is, then refer to this thread: viewtopic.php?f=20&t=98602 Just copy and paste it onto here. I'll start off: Izzy?? 8211K /6 - T3 AK 47 1953 Izhevsk Type 2.
I have only seen one true preban PolyTech. At a gun show in 1989 a fellow was walking around the show trying to sell his PolyTech. If memory serves me correct, the finish was black park, not gray. Jack Lewis did a report on the PolyTech M14s, The Gun Digest Of Assualt Weapons/2nd edition, 1989, M14 in a magazine and the finish looked like black park also. If I had known then what I know now, I would have bought it. It wasn't until April 1994 that I purchased my first PolyTech M14s.
From what i know of these they came in through sile, n.y. Early 1980,s i have one identical, but it is a 56 s.

It's just too easy, to sell it out-of-state for $1000. The Patrick Purdy special sold for $350 maximum in gun stores just before they were banned. Take the money and run. Thanks for then link. Looks like I have to register to see it, which I will do later. That's cool news!!!!!:DYou won't regret it.

Heckler Koch Date of Manufacturer Date Codes If you own a Heckler Koch product, you may be wondering what those numbers and letters stamped on the receiver mean. Well, the two letter code refers to the year the weapon was made. HK CODE LEGEND 0 = A 1 = B 2 = C 3 = D 4 = E 5 = F 6 = G 7 = H 8 = I 9 = K Heckler Koch Date Codes 1980 = IA 1981 = IB 1982 = IC 1983 = ID 1984 = IE 1985 = IF 1986 = IG 1987 = IH 1988 = II 1989 = IK 1990 = KA 1991 = KB 1992 = KC 1993 = KD 1994 = KE 1995 = KF 1996 = KG 1997 = KH 1998 = KI 1998 = KJ 1999 = KK 2000 = AA 2001 = AB 2002 = AC 2003 = AD 2004 = AE 2005 = AF 2006 = AG 2007 = AH 2008 = AI 2009 = AJ 2010 = BA 2011 = BB 2012 = BC 2013 = BD 2014 = BE 2015 = BF 2016 = BG MP5 Serial Number Prefix 62- MP5 9mm 63- MP5SD 64- MP5K. These other variations of the MP5 are known to exist: MP5 A2 MP5 with S-E-F trigger pack and fixed full length stock. MP5 A3 MP5 as described above with S-E-F trigger pack and retractable stock. MP5 A5E MP5 as described above with new style 4 position trigger pack allowing safe, single shot, counted burst, and full auto operation. Also he said he picked it up for like $450 new a couple of months ago but every arnsenal i'm looking at is no less than $729 anywhere. He's bs'ing or what? Click to expand.Glad I could help, those model numbers they have are pretty confusing. He could be trying to pass a converted sporter Saiga off as a Saiga Legion.
Reading this thread got me curoius so I pulled my 84s out of the box and had a look at it. All it has stamped on it is. 56 in a triangle, 84s, the serial number, 5.56mmx45 and made in china. I know it will have been imported into New Zealand in the 1980`s early 1990`s then we had a mass killing and they were banned unless you got a stringent license to keep them which I did in around 2004 and found this one still in the box with 2 30rd mags and unfired for around $400us, Its now had a couple of hundred.223rds put through it, its very well finished compared to my saiga M3 foward trigger. Now recently made a banned import as well. Anyone able to confirm its a Norinco??
A couple years ago or so the question of how many Saigas are produced and think the bottom line was that those numbers are a protected state secret by Russian law, so not sure you're going to get production dates, but maybe things are different over there now. Saiga is a civilian rifle, no reason to put it under secret.
Thanks 27AKignoranthandI recall the 56S came into the US as a semi auto rifle around 1985. The earliest ChiCom AKs I'm aware of were the all-black AKs marketed through 'Clayco' circa 1983-84 and are so marked. 66 is the plant that made it. Norinco or RPC. Is this what you have? I recall the 56S came into the US as a semi auto rifle around 1985.
Hang on to those beautiful, CA-banned AKs. Norinco and Polytech are beautiful and if I ever get outta here, I'll be getting some of my own. Work with us to help defeat the new Czars, especially Sunstein, who are going to try to use restrictions pioneered here in CA against the rest of the country. Check out our site, where people have been able to bring about a revolution in CA-legal firearms that includes members of the Arsenal series and all of the Lancaster, etc., AKs: calguns.netYou're right about keeping those early rifles in the free states. The guy in Kommiefornia had the bright idea that (models on the 1989 Roos-Roberti s--- list) could be converted to an OLL.
Oh they dont offer a 5.56 Saiga Legion series. Arsenal offers the SLR 106 series which is 5.56 caliber. The Arsenal line is alot easier to follow they are all SLR with a 3 digit number starting with 10 and the third number relating to the caliber, followed by one or two letters to denote which style of AK it is. So an SLR 105UR would be a Krinkov clone in 5.45x39 with 16' barrel vice the orignal 8' barrel.
The guy in Kommiefornia had the bright idea that (models on the 1989 Roos-Roberti s--- list) could be converted to an OLL. The people who do this for a living warned him not to risk getting busted. It's just too easy, to sell it out-of-state for $1000. The Patrick Purdy special sold for $350 maximum in gun stores just before they were banned. Take the money and run. Thanks for then link.

You obviously have not heard of the Draco, mini-Draco, M92 PAP, M85. There also other notable Century marked rifles that were assembled in the US that meet or exceed even Arsenal quality standards such as their Yugo M70AB2 and Polish 1960 AK-47. As far as holding value, just go look in the secondary market. Ive seen WASRs sold for $600 - a WASR! Good luck finding a mini-draco for under $900 (they used to sell for $350 last year). I think once people get over the ignorance and actually understand the history and the materials that go into these rifles, it's does not seem like its such a bad deal.
Is yours a Mak 90? Finding a pre ban gas block and front sight, that will fit the Chinese AK, won't be easy. Visually the main differance is the folding bayonet and the chromed bolt but the gas block is also differant.
I've had this on my mind for a while now, and I finally remembered to post it. I got this idea from the romanian section. If you have a real russian made AK (milled, stamped, folder, 47, 74, krink, etc.), post the arsenal, year, and full serial number (including letters) following the format the same as on the trunnion or milled receiver. Also, post what the rifle or parts kit is (ie; AKM, AKMS, AKS74, T3.). *Please post the info only for rifles or parts kits that you actually own or once owned.* Do not post the info of someone else's rifle in order to avoid confusion. Also, do not post info if your rifle/kit has been remarked or had the numbers changed, I would like for only true russian made serial numbers to be cataloged. Pics are not required but will be a great help.
